Children’s Counselling

Supporting your child/young person through difficult transitions and life changes.

Watching your child experiencing emotional difficulties or struggling with life changes is very worrying and can often leave you feeling helpless.

Even when they want to, young people can find it hard to talk to those closest to them about their feelings. Sometimes it is because they are afraid of upsetting you or because they are feeling ashamed or embarrassed.

Talking to an experienced counsellor, in a confidential space, can feel easier at these times and is often a good first step to more open communication with family and the wider world.

My Experience

I have experience supporting children with:

  • Friendship and relationship issues

  • Family changes

  • Anxiety

  • Children struggling to come to school

  • Low mood

  • Exam pressures

  • Grief

  • Anger

Specialisms

I specialise working with grief and volunteer with the Kent bereavement charity Holding On Letting Go.

My Therapy Space

When counselling my younger clients, I work in a number of local Kent primary schools. Outside of school hours, I work from a fully equipped counselling room in Sittingbourne. Here, your child will have access to a range of creative resources, which will help your child process and express their feelings.

I have an enhanced DBS check and undertake regular safeguarding training.

How does it work?

After an initial telephone consultation, where we can agree a time and a place for our sessions to begin, we will all meet for our first session at your child’s school or in my room on the Stadium Business Park in Sittingbourne.

This will give your child the opportunity to get settled and for you both to talk about what you would like to gain from our sessions together. When your child feels comfortable, you can leave and we will continue with our session.

Regular evaluation sessions are arranged, where we can meet together to talk about how the counselling is going. This is also the opportunity to make plans for a positive ending, when your child is ready for the counselling to finish.

It is important to create the ideal balance between your child’s autonomy and confidentiality while keeping you, the parent or carer, involved. This way we can ensure the best possible outcome for your child.
